Fire In The Park
The comp/jam
was pretty cool, it had a good turnout and everyone seemed
to have fun. It started with the kids group which was more
of a session than having seperate runs so more of the kids
entering had more confidence. It was the local rippers that
really stood out like Ben Grove - Stockports own Jamie Thomas
who really did go balls out jumpin out of the 1/4 on the far
side to 50-50 stall on the huge sub box but couldn`t quite
pull it back in so decided to just try jumping into the 1/4
off the big box with his board in his hand but still couldn`t
quite balance it out and took some slams, and little 10 year
old Ste Shannon pictured kickflippin` on the big bank in the
main bit. Then there were the guys that had come from neighbour
park Bolton and Dan Brady from Blackpool. They ripped too
Then it was downstairs
for the mini-ramp comp for the kids and then for the older
guys. It was local boys, Woody, Andy Scott and Warren that
stole the show skating the ramp so fast. Woody did frontside
180 late shuvit second try and it was so smooth. Andy was
trying frontside flip melons and he too was taking some slams
he came close but didn`t quite hook up board with feet. Warren
was flying out of the ramp with frontside, backside and to
fakie airs.
It was then to
the bowl where again it seemed to be Woody, Scott, Oscar and
Warren who really stood out. Andy Scott cruised around the
bowl with the smoothest of style, grinding and sliding around
the coping. Oscar was absolutely crazy ollieng out of the
bowl to 50-50 stall on the big vans sign at the back which
has an at least 12 ft drop on the other side to concrete,
but that didn`t stop him. He couldn`t quite pull it back in
(though I think he pulled it after the comp, this was a trick
the Scott Bourne was trying at the recent Consolidated tour
but it took him nearly all day) so instead he went up there
with someone elses board in his hand, jumped out kicked the
back board and then jumped back in and landed to tail on the
other board to drop back in and cruise away (check out the
sequence). Warren again pulled big airs out of the transition.
Another thing was Ben Groves flip to 50-50 in the deep end
perfect but I failed to capture it on my camera.
I`m afraid I
don`t know too much from the street comp for the older guys
because I entered it so it was a bit of a blur. I do know
that Tony Desilva pulled a backside tailslide down the big
rail box from the flat of the top of the fun box, no-one could
miss that it was absolutely sick!. It was a best trick comp
then and it ended up being a huge sub-box session. Everyone
was hurling themselves up onto this huge box above the far
1/4. This soon died down when Ben Grove (aged only 15) popped
onto it to 50-50 and ollied back in to find himself at the
bottom of transition with a severly broken wrist...Ouch!.
Well done Ben who won for being crazy!
I don`t know
the final results of everything but everyone had a good time
and had fun. Thanks to Note, Scientist, Blueprint and Emerica
for prizes and Tru Thoughts records for the tunes. Also a
big thanks to Rick for the commentary and keeping it all together
